  1. Thank you for sharing your lovely childhood memories. It sounds like something children love 🙂 That’s sad about the not so great version of Holi in Delhi. I hope that men will not treat women like that.

    1. Children do love it and even adults do. My perception is but coloured by my experiences – not everyone goes through it in Delhi, I am sure – but the childhood memories of the festival make it better 🙂

  2. Your childhood memories of Holi are exactly what I imagine when I see pictures of the festival, its sad that your experience in Dehli is so different, it will make you cherish those childhood ones even more! Happy holi xo

  3. I have seen photos of this festival but never knew the background behind it or its name. What great memories of the Calcutta version. I can imagine how much fun that was as a child, and the description of your mother’s expression and ensuing cleaning ritual is very funny. Better to remember this than Dehli.

    1. Yes Caroline 🙂 Thank you for reading and commenting. It is a wonderful festival. There is also a marijuana infused drink called bhang that adds much colour to the fun. But that is the adult version of the festival and I have just the childhood version really. I have heard hilarious stories of friends who had bhang copiously. One of them realised later how deadly the effect was when he stood by a pot of food he was cooking on the stove and kept stirring the pot in slow motion, all day, till he flopped and passed out at night.

  4. Your childhood version of Holi is so endearing, every Indian child would relate to it 😀 I have some friends who still plays holi with the same fervour but I like to watch and enjoy it from a distance 🙂
